This will include a brief overview of the history of photography, especially in the 19th century when photography as we know it developed. We will discuss the history of the photograph/negative & any information/stories around it. Your own thoughts & ideas regarding the reason it was taken will be encouraged. We will look at the format/style/size & general look of the photograph/negative & what is in the image that can help you date it. Useful aids to help in the dating process & suggested books & websites will be included.
Before Part 2 (see 29th July) participants will be asked to select a photograph from their own collection & by applying information gained from Part 1, analyse it & write down their own conclusions & how they arrived at them.
