Three articles you must read…

The latest Really Useful Bulletin No 62, October 2025 has three articles you should Read.

The lead article 'The Promised Land, The Story of Emigration – 1850 to 1914 by Martin Greenwood. Reading this article and the numbers of people that emigrated makes one realise that probably most families had at least on member that left England for a better life. Martin explains the conditions they met getting to the departure posts, while waiting to embark, the journey and their arrival at the promised Land.

The second article DNA-Unexpected results tells of the test showing your matches are not of the family who brought up your ancestor. Genetics do not lie and the article says 'nurture is a vital part of upbringing'. You have to face the fact you now have the dilemma tell your family and contact the matches.

The final piece is a summary of Chris Paton's blog 'When the world of corporate genealogy turns ugly' and tells of the Ancestry's challenging the National Records of Scotland (NRS) to force them to release records that are already available on the Scotland's People web site. NRS has refused to have a agreement with Ancestry who are a profit making organisation with shareholders whose interest is gaining a profit.
