- North West Kent Family History Society. Registered charity No. 282627. The Society provides its members and the public with a number of Services and the opportunity to:-
- Join North West Kent Family History Society. Membership year runs from January to December. You may join at any time but your membership will be due for renewal the next January. For those joining after 1st October you will have the benefit of up to fifteen months initial membership. Joint membership is available.
- Receive its quarterly Journal free to all members
- Attend meetings at its Branches
- Visit and use its Research Centre
- Exchange family history information through its various message boards, information services and web site.
- Purchase publications and other media
- Renew Membership
- Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. The above items are available by distance selling. "Distance selling" means all sales of goods and the provision of services other than face-to-face, including transactions using the internet, by mail order, telephone and advertising in magazines, newspapers and periodicals. The Society's facilities may be provided either by the use of interactive online forms, or by postal orders. In the case of online forms, the financial side of the transaction is performed by PayPal’s secure services. Postal and telephone requests are not supported by use of credit card. Postal requests are accepted only when accompanied by cheque payment in UK pounds.
- Delivery. Orders are expected to be processed within fourteen working days. Where transactions are for deliverable items, these will be sent out by UK post. Overseas delivery is by Airmail and the customer is responsible for payment of any Local Taxes and Import Duties levied in the country of the delivery address. The Society is run entirely by volunteers, and due to holiday arrangements and for other reasons the Society may on occasion be unable to meet this timescale. Some items do not require physical delivery, e.g. membership renewals, bookings for events, services. For these, confirmation of the transaction is provided either directly on the website (for online forms as described above), or by a subsequent e-mail. In the case of new members, joining the Society, Journal and membership numbers may not arrive within the period shown above. These are processed in batches, and the timing of each batch may be subject to delays from various causes, it may exceptionally be up to three weeks for a UK delivery and longer for an overseas delivery. When joining for the following membership year, the first magazine is posted in December.
- Deliverable goods. Cancellations and refunds : A customer has the right to cancel an order for deliverable goods within seven working days after receipt of the goods. This seven-day “cooling-off" period excludes Saturdays, Sundays, and UK Bank Holidays. Notification of intention to cancel should be received by the Society within the cooling-off period, in writing which can be either in e-mail or letter format sent to the Society's e-mail or postal address. A telephone call will not be acceptable. On receipt of notice within the cooling-off period, the Society will refund the sale price of goods if, and only if, they are returned in a re-saleable condition. The goods are to be cared for by the customer at the customer's risk. The cost of returning the goods must be paid by the customer and will not be paid by the Society. Payment of a refund will be made by the Society within 30 days of receipt of the returned goods in a re-saleable condition. A charge of £1.00 per order plus postage & tracking costs incurred by the Society will be deducted from the refund. Refunds will be made by cheque or via PayPal. No refunds will be made in respect of CDs where the customer has broken the seal or wrapper. In the event of an overpayment authorized by the customer when ordering, a refund will be made, at the Society’s discretion, by either cheque or PayPal (depending on the method used to make the original payment). ALL Refunds will be subject to a deduction to cover costs as follows:-
- Up to £20.00 a deduction of £2.
- OVER £20.00 a deduction of 10% of the total paid.
- Society services (non-deliverables). No refunds will be made for membership subscriptions paid during the year. In the event of a duplicate payment for a membership or a renewal, charge of £1.00 per order will be deducted from the refund. Refunds will be made by cheque. Alternatively, the payment may be considered as a prepayment for the following year’s membership subscription.If the Society has been asked to supply a service for a fee, then once the request and the fee for the service have been received by the Society, it will start to process (please remember this service is operated by part time volunteers) the request and no "cooling-off" period shall apply, with the consequence that no fee refund will be made even if the customer wishes to stop the research. Requests for the refund of fees for Society events will be considered on their merit. Where a cancellation of attendance is received two weeks before the start date of the event, a full refund will be made. Later cancellations will not result in a refund. The laws of England and Wales shall apply to this contract.
- Return of Faulty Goods. The above statement regarding the return of deliverables applies only to the cancellation of an order. In the event that goods supplied are faulty, a refund or replacement will be made upon the return of the faulty goods. Notification of faulty goods must be made to the Society's contact within 28 days of receipt of the faulty goods.
- Privacy and Data Protection. The Society holds data on its members & customers for administrative purposes only and uses PayPal for secure financial transactions within the online shop. We do not, therefore, see or store your financial details such as credit/debit card data. You confirm you are happy to be periodically contacted by the Society about your membership, the activity of the Society to deliver publications and email updates you subscribe to and that you wish to receive the Society’s newsletter online(via email) and also the Society’s quarterly journal. The Society will not provide your personal information to third parties other than for these specific preferences and purposes of the above and you may opt out or change your preferences at any time. Our site may use “cookies” to enhance user experience. A user’s web browser places cookies (a small text file) on their hard drive for record keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about them. Users may choose to set their web browser to refuse cookies or to alert when cookies are being sent. If they do so, note that some parts of the site may not function properly.
- Use. Use of data is for the personal research of the member or customer. It must not be copied and published under any circumstances without obtaining the Society’s written approval for such use. A fee and full acknowledgement of the source will be required.
- Contacting the Society's Customer Service. In the event of a query, regarding an order placed please use the contact form at the bottom of our Home page to contact the Chairman.
- Website. The information contained in this website is for general information purposes only. The information is provided by the Society and while we endeavour to keep the information up to date and correct, we make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the completeness, accuracy, reliability, suitability or availability with respect to the website or the information, products, services, or related graphics contained on the website for any purpose. Any reliance you place on such information is therefore strictly at your own risk. In no event will we be liable for any loss or damage including without limitation, indirect or consequential loss or damage, or any loss or damage whatsoever arising from loss of data or profits arising out of, or in connection with, the use of this website. Through this website you are able to link to other websites which are not under the control of the Society. We have no control over the nature, content and availability of those sites. The inclusion of any links does not necessarily imply a recommendation or endorse the views expressed within them. Every effort is made to keep the website up and running smoothly. However, the Society takes no responsibility for, and will not be liable for, the website being temporarily unavailable due to technical issues beyond our control.
